Work & Travel USA is an official cultural exchange programme run by the United States Department of State. The programme provides students with the opportunity to learn about American culture, gain experience, develop language skills, make new friends, and make international contacts.
Work & Travel USA is organised by selected J-1 sponsors who have been authorised by the US government to issue the DS-2019 form, which is used to apply for a J-1 visa. This visa allows students to work legally in the United States during their summer vacation for a maximum of four months and to travel around the country for up to 30 days after their programme ends, but no later than October 1.
Other documents can be submitted later, based on the deadlines set in the agreement.
Discover America offers two Work and Travel Programs:
SELF PLACEMENT Students seek out job opportunities on their own, using their contacts or the internet. Former Work and Travel USA programme participants can provide with information on employers who can hire students as part of the self-placed option.
Please remember to bring the appropriate job offer form that you received from EBLA, as it must meet the US Department of State’s requirements. The job offer form must be submitted with your application documents (before your J-1 visa interview) for your safety.
CIEE FULL PLACEMENT The WAT offer is provided by CIEE, which works with many verified and reputable employers throughout the United States. In advance, we will provide you with detailed descriptions of the employers and job positions.
By taking part in the online interviews with the employers, you will receive a job offer form.
If you and your friends want to receive the same offer and travel to the same location, you must apply to the programme and reserve a spot for both yourselves and your friends.
